HP is finally stepping into the Android tablet market in India with the launch of the new OmniPad 12. Priced at ₹48,999, the tablet is designed to offer a mix of portability, entertainment, and productivity in one compact device.
When most people hear the name HP, they immediately think of laptops. So seeing the company launch its first Android tablet feels a little unexpected — but also interesting. During a recent HP launch event in Gurgaon, the OmniPad 12 easily became one of the most talked-about products alongside HP’s new AI-focused devices.
After spending some time with the tablet, here are my first impressions.

HP OmniPad 12 Price
Design
The OmniPad 12 keeps things simple and clean. The design feels familiar, especially if you have used HP laptops before. The HP logo sits neatly in the middle, while the camera module and magnetic keyboard connector stand out on the back.
At just 7.3mm thick, the tablet feels impressively slim and lightweight. The tablet itself weighs around 600 grams, although the bundled keyboard adds some extra weight.
One thing I noticed quickly was that the back panel attracts fingerprints quite easily. Thankfully, HP bundles the folio cover and keyboard with the device, so most users will probably keep it protected anyway. The tablet comes in a single Denim Blue colour option.
Display
The HP OmniPad 12 features a 12-inch 2K display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio. HP says the screen can reach up to 400 nits of brightness
The bezels are slightly thicker than what you see on premium flagship tablets, but overall, the display feels smooth and responsive. Scrolling through apps and navigating the interface felt fluid during the short hands-on session. Indoor brightness also looked perfectly fine for watching videos, browsing, and productivity tasks.
Performance and Battery
The tablet is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon SM6475Q chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. HP has also added support for microSD cards if you need extra storage space.
For connectivity, you get:
Wi-Fi 6E
Bluetooth 5.2
USB Type-C port
3.5mm headphone jack
HP has also included quad speakers with DTS:X Ultra support, which should make movies and music more enjoyable.
The tablet packs a 31Wh battery with 33W charging support. HP claims it can deliver up to 18 hours of battery life, although real-world testing will tell us how accurate that number really is.
Cameras
The OmniPad 12 comes with a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera for video calls and selfies. Tablet cameras are usually not a huge selling point, but the front camera could still matter for online meetings, classes, and work calls.
Keyboard Experience
One of the best things about the OmniPad 12 is definitely the bundled keyboard. Unlike many tablet keyboards that feel cramped or flimsy, this one feels surprisingly close to a proper laptop keyboard.
The keys are well-spaced, comfortable to type on, and offer satisfying feedback. HP has even included a wrist-rest area, which makes the overall typing experience feel more natural and productivity-focused.
First Impressions
The OmniPad 12 leaves a pretty positive first impression. It feels lightweight, portable, and practical for users who want a tablet that can also handle basic productivity work.
Of course, we still need to test its real-world performance, battery life, and software experience properly. But based on the initial hands-on experience, HP’s first Android tablet already looks like a solid option for students, casual users, and anyone looking for a compact laptop alternative.
Availability
The HP OmniPad 12 starts at ₹48,999 in India. The tablet will be available from June through HP online stores, Amazon, Reliance Digital, and HP World outlets.
